IVLZ - Examples of technical possibilities

The IVLZ is currently able to access practically all the traffic light systems operating in the urban area. Operators working in the control room respond on the one hand to prevent impending congestion situations and also to tackle already existing traffic disruptions or major public transport system delays by adjusting traffic light programs. By increasing the green period in the congested direction, the traffic flow can be considerably improved, dissipating traffic jams or even preventing their build-up in the first place.

NeckarPark

The incidence of traffic in and around the NeckarPark events complex can be extremely heavy at peak periods. This area is home to venues such as the Gottlieb-Daimler sports stadium, the two concert halls Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle and Porsche-Arena, and also the Mercedes-Benz Museum - each of them major public attractions. Consequently this area forms a particular focus of attention for the IVLZ .

Traffic entering the area over the Gaisburger Bridge is managed by a lane signalling system. This means that depending on the traffic situation and the necessity at any given time, one lane is assigned to traffic flowing in either one or the other direction. The Park and Traffic Management System operated in the NeckarPark area uses dynamic LED displays to guide visitors along either the most direct route or if necessary along an alternative route to car parks within the events complex. The Bad Cannstatt Incident Management System recommends alternative routes in case of accidents or other disruptions. Alternative routes are indicated by dynamic variable signs.

Pilot project in the north of Stuttgart

In the area to the north of Stuttgart, a pilot project has been implemented in cooperation with the State of Baden-Württemberg in the form of a traffic control system. For road users heading towards Stuttgart, the IVLZ provides alternative route information in the event of any congestion on the main arterial B10 road. Using dynamic congestion information boards, road users are warned of the existence of traffic jams while still on the A81 feeder road, with an indication of an alternative route via the Feuerbach motorway junction and the B295. This selective traffic control measure allows faster dissipation of congestion on the B10.
