Schlossplatz

These Baroque style formal gardens featuring fountains, a bandstand and the Jubilee Column forms one of the city centre's main squares. The 30 metre-high Jubilee Column erected in 1841 and crowned by a 100 hundredweight statue of the Goddess Concordia, forms the focal centre of the square.

The Königstraße shopping street and late classicist Königsbau building border the Schlossplatz to the Northwest. On the opposite side, the baroque style "New Castle" (Neue Schloss) borders the square. Completing the framework of this historic square are the Medieval "Alte Kanzlei" building and the Renaissance-style "Old Palace" (Alte Schloss). Today, this former parade ground is a popular venue for open-air art events and city festivals.
