Kursaal Bad Cannstatt

The "grand pump room" (Großer Kursaal) was constructed between the years 1825 and 1841 in the classicist tradition on the basis of plans by Nikolaus von Thouret of the "Cannstatt Spa Assocation" and with the support of King Wilhelm I. It was used as a spa centre for many years, and towards the end of the 19th Century even received royal patronage when the King and Queen came here to take the waters. After being destroyed by fire in 1943, the pump room was rebuilt in 1949. Today, the palatial building boasts a "Brunnenhof" or spa fountain court where visitors can take the waters, as well as a variety of conference and event rooms, a restaurant and a beer garden. The "small pump room" (Kleiner Kursaal) was constructed by Albert Eitel between the years 1907 and 1909 in the Jugendstil tradition. This building was refurbished from 1976 to 1977.
