Television Tower

Stuttgart's Television Tower, at an impressive height of 217 metres, provided the design blueprint for TV towers the world over. Located on the Hoher Bopser (483 metres above sea level), the Stuttgart Television Tower has stood as the acknowledge symbol of the city for over 40 years. After taking just 20 months to build, the tower was inaugurated on February 5, 1956.

Based on a design by Stuttgart-based engineer Prof. Dr. Fritz Leonhardt implemented with the support and assistance of head site engineer Prof. Erwin Heinle, this innovative tower stands as a masterpiece of Swabian architecture. The construction costs of 4.2 million Deutschmarks had been recouped by admission fees within only five years. The tower was renovated in 2005. The view it affords over the city as far as the Black Forest and the Swabian Alb is breathtaking. On clear days, it is possible to see as far as the Alps!
