Every summer, amateurs and professionals fight it out in the Standard and Latin American ballroom dancing disciplines for hotly contested awards and prize money at the German Open Championships. The tournament is the world's biggest dance festival: Over 6 days, 2000 couples from every continent display their championship dancing skills. The German Open Championships have been held since 2004 in the Liederhalle Culture and Congress Centre.
The dance contestants participate in five different age categories: Juveniles (up to 11), Juniors I (from 12 to 13), Juniors II (14 to 15), Youth (16 to 18), Adults (18 and over), Seniors (35 and over), Seniors II (45 and over), Seniors III (55 and over) and Professionals (no age restriction).
