Around the end of August to the beginning of September, Stuttgart's "Wine Village" opens its doors for a 12-day extravaganza of quality wines and culinary specialities of the Swabian region. Over the Market Square and Schillerplatz and all along Kirchstraße, wine and food lovers can make themselves comfortable and indulge in local specialities washed down by their favourite vintage.
Stuttgart's history has always been closely tied to the winegrowing industry. It was back in 1976 that the Pro Stuttgart Tourist Board decided to launch the Stuttgarter Weindorf in honour of this long winegrowing tradition. This traditional festival is now considered one of the most attractive of the many "wine villages" staged in Germany each year.
Swabian hospitality, tempting culinary delights and 250 different wines from the Baden and Württemberg regions attract huge numbers of visitors to the State Capital to sample the full-bodied local wines and enjoy such regional specialities as pasta parcels called Maultaschen, traditionally braised Rostbraten steaks and onion tart.
Dates in 2018: 29 august to 9 september
