Cannstatter Volksfest

Europe's biggest funfair provides enjoyment and a rich variety of entertainment over a 17-day period every year in the last week of September and first week of October. A wide variety of different fairground rides such as a big wheel, roller coasters, a wild water coaster or the nostalgic carousel fascinate visitors young and old. The celebration continues in the beer tents, while the Chandler's Market entices browsers with a variety of useful items and curios.

The Cannstatter Volksfest is officially declared open with the traditional keg tapping ceremony. Another attraction is the annual Volksfest parade which winds its way through the city streets, made up of beautifully decorated brewers drays drawn by teams of four dray horses, as well as dancing and singing groups in traditional costume.

The symbol of the Volksfest is the traditional fruit column which rises up above the fairground. From the very first Volksfest held in 1818, this towering column decorated with fruit, cereals and vegetables has always adorned the fairground site. This symbol reminds visitors of the origins of the Volksfest as an agricultural harvest festival.

Dates in 2018: 28 september to 14 october
