The cultural center is being planned by the Department of Culture - you can already look forward to a first-class and varied program of events: Villa Berg aims to span an arc between high, sub and pop culture. In addition to two event halls, project rooms, workshops and gastronomy are also planned, making it necessary to expand the Villa Berg.
Culture for and with Stuttgart residents
As an open house, Villa Berg aims to make music and culture accessible to everyone in Stuttgart. Cultural participation and involvement are therefore firmly anchored in the organization. Anyone with ideas for Villa Berg can contact the planning team at the Department of Culture at any time. Another aim is to promote exchange between Stuttgart residents and artists even more in future. Villa Berg is to become a cultural venue that meets the highest artistic standards and is still accessible to everyone.
The cultural center will also become a new, additional hub for the Ost district. Initiatives and associations can also use the Villa Berg.
Current: Revision of the planning variants
Two planning variants developed by architects ATELIER BRÜCKNER for the renovation and extension of Villa Berg were presented to the public in September 2023 as part of the Villa Berg Action Days. In four participation workshops and an action day, numerous responses from citizens, the Villa Berg project group, cultural workers and committed individuals from Stuttgart and Stuttgart East as well as young people were collected and documented. During the action days, there was once again lively interest from the public and a great deal of support for the use of Villa Berg as an open house for music and more. The drafts presented were largely well received, but there were also many constructive and critical comments and remarks.
The plans were subsequently discussed intensively and controversially in several municipal committees, such as the municipal council's Committee for Urban Development and Technology (STA) and the District Advisory Council East. A key result of these consultations were concerns from several municipal council groups regarding the level of the initial cost estimates and the structural scope of the plans.
For this reason, the city administration is now examining proposals for savings in the project, which are to be achieved through both structural cutbacks and organizational measures.

"Windows Paintings"
Villa Berg has had a new face since September 2022. In collaboration with the production office "The Real Office" (opens in a new tab) and the "Art in Public Space" team from the cultural promotion department, a temporary work of art was created in the windows of the villa. The "Window Paintings" design was selected from three international works. A mixed jury of Stuttgart residents and experts unanimously decided in favor of Andrea Lüth (opens in a new tab)'s design. The project was inaugurated on September 24, 2022 as part of the Stöckachfest.
