Those who use carpooling - for example, to travel to work with colleagues - contribute to improving air quality, reduce their own travel costs and have less stress. Carpooling services are also a good way for travelers to get to their destination quickly, environmentally friendly and cheaply.
Carpooling can also greatly reduce the volume of traffic. They are therefore a sensible alternative for reducing motorized traffic in Stuttgart and the region and using the car more efficiently. It pays to drive together: The environment is protected. Fuel costs can be shared. Stress is reduced. You drive in company. And you can make new contacts.
Reducing emissions and improving mobility options
The carpooling platform "Stuttgart fährt mit" was launched in June 2023 - a project of the state capital Stuttgart, Stuttgart Airport, Marienhospital Stuttgart, Stuttgart Hospital and the Universities of Hohenheim and Stuttgart. The platform serves to connect people who want to take part in a carpool. It is intended to reduce stress, cut climate-damaging emissions and improve mobility options for commuters.
The existing carpooling platform "Stuttgart fährt mit" (opens in a new tab) is to be expanded over the next two and a half years. Under the name "ZuMoBi - Zusammen Mobil", a new, innovative mobility platform is to be created in future that will make commuting in Stuttgart and the surrounding region fundamentally easier and more sustainable. The aim is to organize transport in carpools in a climate-friendly, flexible way that is suitable for everyday use - and to link it intelligently with local public transport and other mobility services. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) and will run until June 2027.
Platform "Stuttgart rides along
The online service is a regional and free opportunity to get together with other people to form carpools. The project is coordinated by the city of Stuttgart.
"Stuttgart fährt mit" enables new carpools to be set up in an environment of trust. The platform offers commuters a fair cost compensation for each carpool. Use of the platform is free of charge for employees of participating employers. At some locations, there are also exclusive parking spaces for carpools and other benefits such as a return trip guarantee.
The carpooling platform "Stuttgart fährt mit" is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) as part of the Clean Air Immediate Action Program (opens in a new tab). It is part of the "Sustainable and innovative mobility in Stuttgart" action plan and the climate mobility plan of the state capital Stuttgart.
The company RideBee is responsible for developing the app and web platform as well as for rollout and marketing. B.A.U.M. Consult GmbH is also supporting the project.
