Permanent residence permit
With a Permanent Residence-EU you can live, work or study in EU countries under facilitated conditions. It offers you more mobility within and outside the EU.
Prerequisite
The granting of a permit for permanent residence in the EU requires the following:
- Your identity has been established and you meet the passport requirements.
- You have been living in Germany for at least five years without interruption with a residence permit.
- You are able to provide for yourself and your family members without recourse to public funds (you are considered self-supporting if your income is at least equivalent to the basic social assistance plus the costs of accommodation and heating).
- You have adequate health insurance cover.
- You are allowed to pursue gainful employment and have all the necessary permits.
- You have paid contributions into the statutory pension insurance scheme or another pension insurance scheme with comparable benefits.
- You can provide accommodation for yourself and the family members living with you in a family group.
- You have sufficient knowledge of the German language (level B1) as well as basic knowledge of the legal and social order and living conditions in the Federal Republic of Germany (e.g. with a completed orientation course certificate "Living in Germany").
- There are no grounds for deportation or other grounds of public safety or order that would prevent the granting of permanent residence in the EU.
