Work on the second construction phase of the main cycle route 2 between the Otto-Konz bridges and Hedelfinger Platz has been completed. Cyclists now have access to a continuous and safe route of around 1.5 kilometers in both directions. The completion is part of the city's plans to gradually improve the cycle path infrastructure. The aim is to make cycling in Stuttgart more attractive, safer and more suitable for everyday use.

The redesign of Hedelfinger Straße brings more safety and comfort for everyone: cycle lanes have been installed on both sides, sidewalks have been renewed and widened and ten new trees have been planted to improve the urban climate. The roadways were also modernized and equipped with seepage paving to improve the microclimate.

Hedelfinger Strasse relieved of through traffic

The construction section that has now been completed follows on from the first section that has already been completed. The construction work took place from September 2023 to October 2025. The total costs amount to around 6.5 million euros.

In order to equalize traffic, Kesselstraße was strengthened as the main access axis for the adjacent industrial estate. This will relieve Hedelfinger Strasse of through traffic in future, especially heavy goods traffic. This increases safety for cyclists.
