City Hall Library

The Stuttgart City Hall Library is one of the oldest administrative libraries in Germany. As a specialist legal library, it supports employees of the city administration in obtaining official information. Citizens can also use the stock in the reading room, but it is not possible to borrow items.

The history of Stuttgart's town hall library dates back to the 16th century.

The City Hall Library's collection of print and audiovisual media comprises over 131,000 media units (books, micro-materials, loose-leaf editions, CD-ROMs), including 220 current journals and fourteen newspapers.

As a specialist legal library, it supports employees of the city administration in obtaining official information. Citizens can also use the collection in the reading room, but it is not possible to borrow items.

Information and advice

The library offers specialist literature and information in printed and digital form on public law, civil law, political science, social science, economics, public administration, municipal science and parliamentary publications. It also provides literature on Stuttgart and Württemberg. Guided tours of the library and media exhibitions on new acquisitions round off the service.
