Hamburg fish market

When lighthouses stand on Karlsplatz, ships drop anchor and fresh fish is loudly advertised, then the Hamburg fish market is back in Stuttgart. Since 1987, the "Hamburg Fish Market" has also made a stop in the state capital on its journey through Germany.

Once a year, the Hamburg fish market comes to Stuttgart. Then it is once again: "Moin and a fish roll please."

Every year, a fragrant sea breeze wafts through Stuttgart for a few days on Karlsplatz. Then the bell rings again at the Backfischturm, the market criers loudly outdo each other with their offers and visitors get a language course in "Hamburgerisch".

The shade of the mighty chestnut trees and the Hanseatic music invite you to drop anchor on Karlsplatz and try your way through the displays of the "Kombüsen" set up. The selection is impressive: fish rolls in countless variations, shrimp cocktails, fried herring, smoked eel and the legendary Labskaus, a dish with potatoes, beef and beet, to name just a few of the many culinary delights. The three-master "Trudel" serves the perfect drink to go with it.
