Rent e-scooter

E-scooters, also known as electric scooters, make a contribution to climate-friendly urban transportation. They have been officially allowed on public roads since 2019. Considerate cooperation is important in order to integrate this mobility option into the urban landscape in a traffic-safe manner.

E-scooters complement sharing offer in Stuttgart

Anyone wishing to rent an e-scooter can do so in Stuttgart via four sharing providers. In order to ensure road safety and the orderly use of scooters, Stuttgart City Council decided at its meeting on June 22, 2023 to tighten up the regulations for e-scooters.

To this end, the administration developed a special use concept in which rules were drawn up on how e-scooters may be provided by providers and how to prevent them from being parked in a disruptive manner by users:

  • In particular, pedestrians, people with disabilities and people with impaired mobility or vision should be less affected by incorrectly parked e-scooters.
  • The special use concept also stipulates a maximum number of 6,000 e-scooters in total (1,500 per provider) in the Stuttgart city area, of which each provider may set up a maximum of 100 vehicles in the city center.
  • In addition, zones have been defined in which the end of a rental period and therefore the parking of e-scooters is prohibited.

In order to offer their e-scooters in the city, providers require a special use permit. Four providers currently have a corresponding permit for their e-scooter rental systems in Stuttgart. To help you, we have compiled the most important  questions and answers about e-scooters.

Report violations to the provider

The main aim of the special use concept is for each provider to ensure the safety of all road users. If e-scooters offered for hire block footpaths or access points and thus endanger the safety of other road users - especially pedestrians and cyclists - the providers must remove them immediately. In the event of non-compliance, the city will charge for removal.

Citizens can report improperly parked e-scooters, for example in prohibited zones or green spaces, directly to the responsible providers:
