Occasions for a family council are, for example, when a parent is absent, parents separate in a dispute or children and young people have difficulties at school. For young people and adults who want to work out a plan for themselves, there is the Future Council. Experts will inform you about professional support services to suit your situation. Together with the people you trust, you can discuss what support you want to accept, what people close to you can offer you and what you can contribute yourself. You can find out exactly how to do this here.
Family Council
If you or family members are facing problems and cannot find a solution or you need support through a difficult time, then a family council is just the thing for you. An independent family council coordinator will support you in the preparation and implementation of your family council. The service is an initiative of the Youth Welfare Office and is free of charge for you.

Young people who want to plan their future or adults who are facing a major decision and need support can contact us as part of a Future Council. A future council can be useful, for example, if you don't know what to do after school or training, if you want to get back into everyday life after a long illness or if you want to organize life transitions.

Council to secure a life free of punishment
Since 2019, we have been running a project in Stuttgart in cooperation with the public prosecutor's office, youth welfare services in criminal proceedings and the juvenile detention center (JVA). The Future Councils are used as part of the prevention of pre-trial detention, to accompany the prison term or to prepare for release.
Family and loved ones meet in the prison and, as in a family council, make a joint plan on how a life free of punishment can succeed. The preparation and advice are accompanied by a coordinator.

Information for professionals
It is a key question in social work: How can we work successfully with families in difficult and often conflictual life situations? And how can we - especially as part of local government - intelligently combine real-life and professional resources?
Family Group Conferencing offers a clearly structured and useful process for this. At the heart of the process is the idea of activating families and their environment and promoting their self-determination. In this way, the necessary professional support is given a broader basis.
