Barrier-free in Stuttgart

Support programs for a barrier-free Stuttgart

In Stuttgart, everyone should be able to find their way. This also applies to people with limited mobility. (Symbol image)

Barrier-free and age-appropriate living

Most people will one day be dependent on barrier-free living space due to age-related mobility restrictions or a disability. The city of Stuttgart promotes conversion measures in apartments and residential buildings that serve to remove barriers.

Subsidies exhausted

There is currently no more funding available, so no further applications can be accepted at the moment.

Stuttgart for all inclusive

Stuttgart wants to be a city where everyone can get along well. This includes ensuring that cultural and leisure activities, educational institutions and healthcare facilities are accessible to everyone. In order to remove existing barriers, the city of Stuttgart promotes both advice on possible measures to improve accessibility and targeted construction measures in the city area.

The aim is to enable people with disabilities to participate in community life on an equal footing. Such measures are beneficial for everyone involved. This is because accessibility is considered a quality feature and increases the number of customers and users. Full funding for measures is possible, as is the provision and financing of advice. The application process is straightforward.

Funding measures to date

Various measures were promoted that serve to reduce barriers in the city area. Structural and technical measures were implemented, as well as barrier-free websites and training courses. The funding program also made it possible to organize events in an inclusive manner and make them accessible.

The InterAkt Initiative has received funding for an inclusive cultural event as well as for hosting the" Inclusion Café" at the Kultur Kiosk.
The Volkshochschule Stuttgart has redesigned its website to meet accessibility requirements.
The Reit- und Fahrverein e.V. Stuttgart had a platform lift installed so that the event room is accessible to all people.
The Gesundheitsladen e.V. has expanded its website to include texts in plain language so that the content can be understood by everyone.
A barrier-free toilet was installed in the café of the Weissenburg e.V. association in Stuttgart-Mitte, for people with mobility impairments.
The Cooperative of Workshops for Disabled People South eG (GDW South) has installed a platform lift. This provides barrier-free access to the stationery store, the copy store and the GDWSüd rooms.
In addition to other changes, such as sound-absorbing panels on the ceiling of the group rooms or the purchase of a new induction system for hearing-impaired people, the self-help contact point KISS Stuttgart installed markings on stairs, the entrance door and the elevator shafts.
