Completed construction projects

New canteen and classrooms at Riedseeschule in Stuttgart-Möhringen

In addition to the existing ensemble of main building, after-school care building and sports hall, a new, elongated three-storey structure was added on the west side of the site to replace the demolished pavilion.

Project description

The new building is divided into two usage areas. These are accessed via a shared main entrance from the schoolyard and are connected via two staircases and an elevator. The canteen with kitchen and dining hall is located on the first floor.

The topographical situation allows for greater room height in the canteen. The dining area opens up to the schoolyard with a glazed façade and can be used for internal school events. The kitchen area is located on the side of the new building facing away from the schoolyard.

The two upper floors house the classrooms, an all-day room and the administration of the Riedsee School. The cramped conditions on the site and planning regulations to reduce the size and height of the building require a full basement for the new building in order to accommodate necessary areas such as technology, storage and sanitary facilities.

For reasons of space, the basement could only be constructed with a shoring. The canteen will have a preparation kitchen to cater for the pupils' lunches. The canteen kitchen is designed for 448 students. The meals are served in two shifts with this level of supply.

The building was constructed using solid construction. Load-bearing walls and ceilings were made of concrete, mostly recycled concrete. A green roof and parts of the façade are planned. A photovoltaic system is also planned.
