Apply for benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act

You are a foreign national or reside in Germany and meet one of the following requirements:

• You have a residence permit in accordance with the Asylum Act (AsylG).
• You have one of the residence permits expressly mentioned in § 1 Para. 1 No. 3 of the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act (AsylbLG).
• You have a tolerated stay permit in accordance with § 60a of the Residence Act (AufenthG).
• You are obliged to leave the country, even if a deportation order is not yet or no longer enforceable.
• You are the spouse/partner or minor child of the above-mentioned persons, without yourself fulfilling the requirements stated there.
• You have submitted a subsequent or second application in accordance with § 71 or § 71a of the Asylum Act.

You can only claim benefits if you do not have sufficient income and/or assets.

To submit your application, please contact the Citizens' Service for Social Benefits at the Office for Social Affairs and Participation. Alternatively, you can also submit your application online via the  service portal of the state of Baden-Württemberg (opens in a new tab).

If possible, you should present the following documents:

• Valid passport and proof of legal immigration status, e.g. permit or tolerated stay permit
• Proof of any income at the time of application, e.g. certificate of earnings
• Proof of assets

The competent authority may request further documents. You must state all facts that are relevant to the granting of asylum seeker benefits. As soon as changes occur, these must be reported to the responsible office immediately.
