Pension insurance - applying for a reduced earning capacity pension

If you are no longer able to work for health reasons, you may be entitled to a reduced earning capacity pension.

In principle, the following insurance requirements must be met

  • Fulfilment of the general qualifying period of contribution years
  • 36 months of compulsory contributions in the last five years prior to the benefit case, i.e. the onset of reduced earning capacity. This is checked by the pension insurance medical service and determined if necessary.

A distinction is made between full and partial reduction in earning capacity.
A partial reduced earning capacity pension is granted if you are able to work three to less than six hours a day on the general labor market.
A full reduced earning capacity pension is granted if you can work less than three hours a day.

The occupational health service of the German Pension Insurance decides on your daily capacity to work. Additional earnings limits must be observed for pensions due to reduced earning capacity.
