Municipal winery

A vineyard in the midst of the urban metropolis: The Stuttgart city council has been running its own vineyard since 1949, with a total of 16 hectares of vines. The historic vineyards shape the special cityscape of the state capital and provide a Mediterranean flair.

The Stadt Stuttgart winery cultivates vineyards in the entire city area: This also includes parts of the "Cannstatter Zuckerle" growing area directly on the Neckar River.

From Bad Cannstatt to Degerloch, from Hasenberg to Obertürkheim, the vineyards are scattered across the city and characterize Stuttgart's cityscape. In some cases, the grapes grow barely visible in the middle of residential areas. Many of the inner-city vineyards are steep terraced sites and require a lot of manual labor as well as expertise to maintain and cultivate them.

The winery of the city of Stuttgart is currently in the process of converting to organic viticulture. The winery has been herbicide-free since 2017.
