Municipal Council

Council of Elders, Committees and Advisory Boards

In a city council, a lot of things have to be decided. Accordingly, city councils have to make many decisions. In order to discuss factual issues more thoroughly in advance, the municipal council is divided into the council of elders, committees and advisory councils. The guidelines are laid down in the municipal code of the state of Baden-Württemberg.

Particularly knowledgeable Stuttgart City Council members are delegated to the committees and advisory councils. The parliamentary groups in the Stuttgart City Council have the right to delegate knowledgeable residents and citizens to committees and advisory boards in place of an elected council member. They then replace a council member with full speaking rights in the relevant committee. However, these expert residents and citizens do not have voting rights.

Like the municipal council, the committees generally meet in public.

Council of Elders

The Council of Elders consults with the Lord Mayor on matters relating to the agenda and the course of negotiations in the Municipal Council. It is composed of representatives of the parliamentary groups.
