Stuttgart Youth Council

District Youth Councils

District youth councils are elected directly by young people between the ages of 14 and 18 in the city districts every two years. Where there are not enough candidates for election, district project groups can be formed.

The Stuttgart City Youth Council is made up of delegates from the district youth councils and representatives of the district project groups. Together, the bodies make municipal policy for young people in the state capital.

The last youth council election took place in January and February 2023. Since that election, Stuttgart has had so-called district youth councils in 21 of 23 city districts. A total of 197 young people were elected to the district youth councils. In addition, 122 young people are their deputies. The number of members in a district youth council depends on the number of inhabitants in the city district. The district youth councils meet regularly.

Project groups are founded in the two city districts without a district youth council: in Stuttgart-Botnang and Stuttgart-Münster. The foundation of a district project group is possible if there are too few applicants for the youth council election in a city district and thus no district youth council comes into being. A project group also meets regularly, but it is more open in terms of participation and can also exist only for the duration of a specific project.

The district youth councils and project groups are supported in the respective city district by the district office and by employees in the local youth centers.
