More than 3,400 wishes from children and young people in Stuttgart who are growing up financially disadvantaged or seriously ill are waiting to be fulfilled in the Children's Wishes Christmas Tree campaign. As patron of the traditional Christmas campaign, Lord Mayor Dr. Frank Nopper set a personal example by picking a wish card from the tree himself at the opening of the wish tree in the town hall on November 26. He picked the wish of seven-year-old Betul, who wanted a big teddy bear to cuddle.
Children's wishes have been able to be picked from the digital Christmas tree at https://kinderwuensche.stuttgart.de (opens in a new tab) since November 19. Now real wish cards from the children and young people involved are also hanging on the decorated Christmas tree in the foyer of Stuttgart City Hall.
Lord Mayor Dr. Frank Nopper"The Christmas campaign 'Christmas Tree of Children's Wishes', which is being carried out by our municipal children's office for the 18th time this year, is characterized by the good Christmas spirit of charity."
Nopper continues: "This year, we want to fulfill over 3,400 Christmas wishes from children and young people who are not on the sunny side of life for social reasons or because they are seriously ill."
Around 65 facilities from various organizations with a particularly high proportion of children with a Bonus Card, such as facilities for single parents, refugee shelters, families in "educational support", pregnancy advice centers or organizations for sick children such as the outpatient hospice service for children and young people Hospiz Stuttgart are involved this year. The wishes are sent exclusively via the employees of the facilities, not via private individuals. The employees collect the individual Christmas wishes of the children and young people and pass them on to the city's children's office.
"Many gift-givers bring their lovingly wrapped presents to us and add personal greetings. Every year, the Christmas tree of children's wishes creates a silent but tangible bond between people who would otherwise never meet. For me, this is the most beautiful form of neighborhood and community in a city: that we look after each other and take responsibility for each other, even if we don't know each other. I would like to sincerely thank everyone involved for their many years of commitment and the many loving gifts," said Maria Haller-Kindler, the city's children's commissioner.
Joy under the Christmas tree for 17 years
The Children's Office of the City of Stuttgart has been organizing the Christmas tree of children's wishes for disadvantaged children and young people since 2008. This year, the company Müller - Die lila Logistik SE is helping to distribute the presents to the institutions. The Stuttgart Children's Foundation, the fashion and lifestyle company Breuninger, the Stuttgart City Initiative, the Baden-Württemberg State Association of Showmen and Market Merchants, the Christoph Sonntag Foundation, Märkte Stuttgart GmbH, the MOSAIQ agency and the Ferris wheel company Oscar Bruch jr. have assumed the deficiency guarantee for the gifts to ensure that all the wishes can be fulfilled in the end.
