Killesberg Tower

Anyone climbing the Killesberg Tower in Stuttgart should be free of giddiness: Because visitors are gently rocked back and forth with every step on the stairs. The way to the top is worth it.

A popular destination in the Höhenpark even in autumn: the Killesberg tower rises into the air like a screw.

The Killesberg tower is located in the middle of the Killesberg municipal park. The tower with its open spiral staircases is 42 meters high. The construction is held together by a filigree steel net, for which the engineering firm Schlaich, Bergermann und Partner received several awards. Visitors can take repeated breaks on their way up. The view over Stuttgart and the Neckar Valley can be enjoyed on four platforms: at heights of 8, 16, 24 and 31 meters.

The 348 steps have a special significance: the Killesberg Tower could only be financed after each step received a donation. The donor thus acquired a sponsorship and his name has since been attached to the step on a small steel plate. Around 40 percent of the construction costs were raised in this way. In 2001, the tower was opened to the public.

The Killesberg Tower is visible from many places in the park. The park is part of the "Green U," a U-shaped green corridor eight kilometers long that connects six  parks in Stuttgart. In the weather vane of the Killesberg tower, the tower rooster, the attentive observer recognizes the shape of the Green U.
