Stuttgart waste management mission statement

We create quality of life for Stuttgart - and have been doing so for over 100 years. Our services range from the sustainable use of resources and recyclable materials to safety through cleanliness in public spaces. We close cycles and save the raw materials of tomorrow!

Our tasks are like AWS itself: diverse. We collect and transport waste and recyclables, clean the streets and ensure that the roads are clear in winter. AWS is also responsible for the city’s central vehicle fleet management, operates its own workshop, several recycling centers, a mineral landfill and much more.

Together with the citizens of Stuttgart, we are shaping a clean and sustainable future and making a decisive contribution to ensuring that Stuttgart is and remains a city worth living in!

Together we are making AWS even stronger.

Well positioned for today and the future.

Who we are, what defines us, how we act and what our goals are - 1,000 AWS employees asked themselves these and more questions. We collected, clustered, condensed and unpacked hundreds of responses in a major participation project across all areas. After a year of work, the result is this mission statement. It applies to all those who are part of AWS or want to become part of it.

This is what we work for.

We all know what we do every day. But what is the deeper meaning behind it? Why is AWS so important? And what makes it worthwhile for each of us to get up in the morning and go to work? We’ve gotten to the heart of the matter here.

Our meaning and purpose

We close cycles by turning waste into recyclable materials and ensure safety through cleanliness in our city.

That is what we want to achieve.

Our work presents us with challenges every day. What motivates us? What we do for our city every day.

Our vision

With our work, we make a decisive contribution to ensuring that Stuttgart is and remains a city worth living in.

That’s how we do it.

We have a big task. How do we manage to do our meaningful work every day? Our mission provides the answer.

Our mission

We offer a wide range of services, from the sustainable use of resources and recyclable materials to safety through cleanliness in public spaces.

That makes us strong.

Our values

Why do we need values? Our values show what we stand for, how we work, act and communicate. The values of AWS make us really strong and distinctive. Because when we live by these values, everyone wins - our cooperation and our relationship with our citizens.

Thorough

This means that we do a thorough job on the road and behind the scenes. With real passion and great commitment. We are reliable in our dealings with each other and with the people of Stuttgart - you can rely on our word.

Diverse

That’s the AWS! There are so many different people, nationalities, cultures and languages here. And there are also completely different tasks, activities and solutions here. Every single person has different experiences that they can contribute. This diversity sets us apart. It enriches us and the way we work together.

Responsible

That’s how we are. Firstly, towards colleagues, employees, citizens and partners. We help, support and take responsibility for our actions. On the other hand, we are responsible towards the environment and resources. We are careful with our equipment and also with the financial resources available to us.

Appreciative

This is what characterizes us: appreciative, respectful and polite cooperation across all positions and tasks, whether colleagues or managers, citizens or partners. And we also appreciate the value of what others dispose of - including recyclable materials and thus raw materials for something new. We are recyclables savers.

This is how we act.

Our guiding principles

We are all guided by our guiding principles in our daily work. We use them to create a good working atmosphere both internally and externally and a positive and trusting working relationship.

That’s what we plan to do.

Our goals

Common goals unite us! So we all know where we want to go and pull in the same direction. When we live by our values and guiding principles, we achieve our goals and inspire others to join AWS.

  • Our communication and our actions reflect our values.
  • With our diversity, we present a unified front for a strong AWS brand.
  • We continue to develop together in order to strengthen the trust and loyalty of employees and citizens in the long term

Each and every individual contributes to the well-being of a community - we all stand for Stuttgart!

Marco Schleicher, street cleaning

We have a big task. Let’s tackle it together.

The cleanliness and safety of our city is a joint task. It can only succeed if everyone gets involved. Because everyone bears a share of the responsibility for this: we as AWS, the citizens, politicians and everyone who is out and about in the city.

Do you enjoy big tasks and vehicles? We also offer training in our workshop.

The people of Stuttgart do their bit by disposing of their waste in our litter bins, separating their waste and keeping their sidewalks clean by reporting illegal dumping and taking part in campaigns to keep the city cleaner.

Politicians do their bit by supporting us so that we can do our job in the best possible way.

And what about us? We know what needs to be done. And we do our best every day. Thoroughly, diversely, responsibly and appreciatively.

For a city worth living in. Today and in the future.

It all depends on you!

A strong team, a strong AWS

We can be proud of ourselves. Because we are committed to our colleagues, to the people of Stuttgart, to society, to our city and to the environment. We need you for this!
