Parents in Stuttgart

Single parents

In over 12,000 households in Stuttgart, children grow up with only one parent. A major challenge for single mothers and fathers - and a major task for the city of Stuttgart.

Raising children is not only fun, but also hard work - especially for single parents.

Parenting, securing an income or a home and coping with everyday life - single parents are left to their own devices in many areas. This often means a tireless effort and frequently pushes those affected to the limits of their strength and capabilities.

There is a wide range of services for precisely these cases - from family centers to advice centers for returning to work. All of them offer help and support or serve as valuable points of contact to get in touch with like-minded people.

Offers for single mothers and fathers

In addition to services for all families, the state capital of Stuttgart also offers special services  for single mothers and fathers. For young single mothers in particular, the Youth Welfare Office provides two residential facilities to make it easier for them to start family life.

The Youth Welfare Office manages two mother-and-child homes on behalf of the Ingrid Ritter Foundation in Stuttgart-Vaihingen and Plieningen. They each offer eight residential units for single mothers and their children. Further information can be found on the  MuK Häuser website (opens in a new tab).
