Youth engagement

The  Stuttgart Youth Council consists of directly elected representatives from the city districts and is involved in municipal decision-making processes. Among other things, the youth councils represent the interests of young people vis-à-vis the local council and city administration and coordinate forms of youth participation. They organize projects and events and support facilities for young people. The youth councils are elected every two years.

The  volunteer agency advises and places people who would like to volunteer in Stuttgart. In its digital  volunteer exchange, non-profit organizations offer a wide variety of volunteering opportunities - from helping out at a district festival, a gardening project in the neighbourhood to assignments for older people or projects with children and young people. The Voluntary Social Year (FSJ) and the Voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ) are voluntary services for teenagers and young people who want to get involved in social and ecological projects. Democratic co-responsibility and self-determination are an essential aspect of youth association work. As an umbrella organization and organization for youth association work, the  Stadtjugendring Stuttgart e.V. (opens in a new tab) looks after the interests of young people and also represents them in dealings with political institutions.

The motto of the day of action organized by the  Baden-Württemberg Youth Foundation (opens in a new tab) and the  Stuttgart Youth House Society (opens in a new tab) is:  Participation is a point of honor (opens in a new tab). And the principle goes like this: students look for a job for a day, and the wages go into the donation box for social projects. Pupils from the 7th grade onwards can take part, as can whole classes from grades 5 and 6. The prerequisite for participation is the consent of the school administration.
