Benefits for education and participation

For pupils up to the age of 25 who attend a general school or vocational school without a training allowance and for children in day care centers, travel costs and entrance fees for one-day excursions are covered as part of the educational benefits. Pocket money must be paid by the child.

At schools and day care centers run by the city, children and young people with the Bonuscard can take part in excursions organized by the school or day care center free of charge. In the case of schools and daycare facilities run by independent providers, the Jobcenter pays the excursion costs confirmed by the school and daycare facility directly to the provider.

Beneficiaries receive an education and participation notice from the Jobcenter stating that the Jobcenter will bear the costs.

For pupils up to the age of 25 who attend a general school or vocational school without a training allowance, the costs of school trips lasting several days, school country homes, study trips and the like are covered as part of the educational benefits. Funding is also provided for trips lasting several days to daycare facilities - crèches, kindergartens, after-school care centers.

The costs of accommodation, meals, travel and entrance fees are reimbursed. Pocket money is to be paid by the child. It is sufficient to submit the information letter from the school or daycare center about the type, duration, destination, costs of the trip and the account details of the provider. The Jobcenter usually transfers the participation fee directly to the school or daycare facility.

For pupils up to the age of 25 who attend a general school or vocational school without a training allowance, costs for school materials totaling EUR 195.00 per year are covered as part of the educational benefits: EUR 130.00 in August at the start of the school year and a further EUR 65.00 in February at the start of the second half of the school year. The amounts are usually adjusted at the beginning of the year.

The amount is intended to be used to purchase school materials such as school bags, sports equipment, materials for writing, arithmetic, painting or handicrafts.

Anyone who receives income support or social assistance receives the school allowance without further application. All other beneficiaries must submit an application to the Jobcenter.

For pupils up to the age of 25 who attend a general school or vocational school without a training allowance, the cost of their school travel pass - usually for the  Deutschland-Ticket JugendBW (opens in a new tab) - is covered.

The funding amount is transferred to the eligible pupils or their parents. Proof of use of the Deutschland-Ticket JugendBW is, for example, a copy of the polygoCard together with proof of payment of the monthly costs.

Pupils up to the age of 25 who attend a general school or vocational school without a training allowance and whose academic success is at risk can receive support as part of the educational benefits. The Jobcenter covers the costs of tutoring or learning support if the individual need for support cannot be covered by regular lessons or additional school offers. The Jobcenter works closely with the schools. There is usually an entitlement to this support if the following conditions are met:

• The tutoring must be provided outside of school. Free school offers, for example remedial lessons, have priority. Offers initiated by the school outside of normal lessons, for example via support associations, are considered extracurricular offers.

• The learning support must be suitable and necessary to achieve the respective essential learning objective. The main learning objectives are set out in the Education Act and are determined by the type of school and grade level.

For children with a migration background, the promotion of the German language is also one of the main learning objectives, regardless of the class level.

The subject teachers determine whether the achievement of the main learning objective is at risk. This is verified to the Jobcenter using the form "Confirmation from the school about the need for learning support".

The main learning objective must be achievable - if it is no longer objectively achievable, learning support cannot be claimed. The subject teacher also confirms the scope and duration of the learning support.

The Jobcenter settles the costs for the tutoring directly with the tutor or tutoring institution.

For students up to 25 years of age who attend a general education school or vocational school without training allowance and for children in day care centers or day care centers, the cost of a communal lunch is covered as part of the educational benefits.

At schools and daycare centers run by the city that offer a communal lunch, Bonuscard holders receive a free lunch upon presentation of the Bonuscard.

When attending schools and daycare centers run by independent organizations, the Jobcenter will cover the costs confirmed by the school or daycare center by making a direct payment to the school. Pupils entitled to benefits receive an education and participation notification from the Jobcenter. This states that the Jobcenter will bear the costs for lunch. The Jobcenter settles the costs directly with the schools and daycare centers.

As part of the participation benefits, guided or supervised sports, play or cultural activities for children and young people up to and including the age of 17 are funded. Each child and young person is entitled to a lump sum of €15 per month, for example for music lessons, membership of a sports club, swimming lessons or participation in camps, forest home vacations or play and toddler groups. In individual cases, the costs of necessary equipment can also be covered.

Children and young people up to and including the age of 18 receive the benefit if proof of participation in one of the above-mentioned activities is submitted. A membership certificate, confirmation of registration or invoice is sufficient. Children and young people are also entitled to the monthly lump sum for free activities.

The monthly amount of 15 euros can also be saved during the approval period. This amount can then be used, for example, for a leisure time or forest home week.

Stuttgart offers a wide range of  sports and exercise activities (opens in a new tab). Numerous clubs and other providers throughout the city offer a varied program, from aerobics to Zumba.

In addition to the education and participation benefits, there is also the Stuttgart Family Card for children and young people up to the age of 17. The  FamilienCard is a voluntary social benefit provided by the city of Stuttgart. The city wants to enable all children and young people to take part in the wide range of leisure and educational activities on offer in Stuttgart.
