Transport development concept 2030

The Transport Development Concept 2030 (VEK) adopted by the city council in 2014 sets out Stuttgart's guidelines and strategies for the course of transport planning. This is a flexible planning instrument that adapts to current developments and serves as a basis for further measures.

Target horizon 2030

The 140-page concept provides a framework for action and defines strategies for transport planning in the state capital in the near future. An important starting point for improving the quality of life in Stuttgart is the reduction of conventional car traffic in the valley basin by 20 percent. This is an integrated and integrative concept that is intended to be a guideline for urban transport planning and thus also enables the necessary measures to be prioritized.

In this case, integrated also means that traffic is seen in the context of the environment, urban design and urban sustainability. This is because traffic development planning is much more than the division of traffic into cars, trains, buses, cyclists and pedestrians. Only when urban traffic is considered as a whole can it be ensured that the mobility needs of Stuttgart's citizens are taken into account.

The various transport systems should also be intelligently networked, functional, socially acceptable and environmentally friendly. This will improve the quality of life in Stuttgart and promote economic development. The  "Sustainable mobility" action plan serves as a concrete instrument for action.
