More and more people want and need to live more mobile lives. This increases the demand for customized, environmentally friendly and affordable mobility. In Stuttgart, Stuttgarter Straßenbahnen (SSB) offers this on-demand service with its SSB Flex service. The minibuses for individual rides can be requested via an app. The difference to a cab is that other passengers who want to travel in the same direction can join the service and get on or off en route.
Flexible with SSB Flex
SSB Flex is a mobility service that complements public transportation in Stuttgart. The service is offered:
- Sunday to Thursday: from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. the following day
- Friday and Saturday: from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day
- In the daytime service areas, SSB Flex is available from 8:00 a.m. in Vaihingen, Möhringen, Degerloch and Stuttgart-Süd.
The mobility service has been bookable with the SSB Flex app since June 1, 2019. The journeys are paid for by credit card or Paypal. If other people want to travel a similar route, the system bundles the requests via the SSB Flex app. Passengers can get on and off regardless of the timetable without a long walk to the stop.
The app localizes the passenger's location and shows possible connections to the desired destination. The app also combines the SSB Flex with journeys on local public transport in the VVS area. The associated costs and the estimated time required are displayed.
From December 15, 2024, SSB Flex will start daytime operation in Vaihingen, Möhringen, Degerloch and Stuttgart-Süd. This means that SSB Flex shuttles in these districts can be booked from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. before the service switches to regular operating hours.
