Apply for eID card for citizens of the EU and the European Economic Area

On January 1, 2021, the eID card was introduced for EU citizens and nationals of the European Economic Area in accordance with the eID Card Act. The new chip card contains proof of identity. You can use it to identify yourself securely, easily and with a high level of trust online and to carry out administrative and business transactions digitally.

The eID card is designed exclusively for online use and does not serve as an identity document or travel document. It therefore does not contain a photograph, fingerprints or a signature. It can be applied for on a voluntary basis from the identity card authorities by citizens of the European Union and nationals of the European Economic Area aged 16 and over. It is issued with a validity period of 10 years.
