The Office of Public Order will be closed to the general public on December 24, 2025 and from December 31, 2025 to January 6, 2026 with all offices, including all citizens' offices in the city districts as well as the vehicle registration and driving license office. The Office for Public Order is one of the central offices with around 1100 employees.
Hardly any other office in the city administration has such a diverse range of services and tasks. Its responsibilities range from applying for driving licenses, fishing licenses, weapons permits and vehicle registration to issuing forgery-proof ID cards and residence permits for foreign citizens or commercial matters.
However, the spectrum includes not only services for citizens, but also measures to ensure public safety and order. These range from ordering traffic regulation measures and punishing administrative offenses to monitoring food businesses.
