Consent for minors traveling alone

If a child travels abroad unaccompanied by parents or one parent, the Federal Foreign Office recommends that the child be given an informal declaration of consent from the person(s) with parental authority in addition to the required identification document. This should state that they agree to the trip abroad.

The declaration facilitates the work of the border police with regard to preventing possible child abduction or unauthorized removal of the child from the sphere of influence of the legal guardian(s).

A declaration of consent may also be required by airlines. Please check with your airline in this regard.
