Apply for fishing license

Fishing license
Anyone who wants to practice fishing must have a fishing license and carry it with them.

  • It entitles to practice fishing in Baden-Württemberg and in the other federal states.
  • Non-German fishing licenses do not entitle you to practice fishing in the federal territory.

The fishing license is only valid if you have paid the fishing tax for the current calendar year. This does not apply to youth fishing licenses.

In addition to the fishing license, the consent of the respective fishing license holder ("Fischereierlaubnisschein"), in whose waters fishing takes place, is also required for the practice of fishing.

Fishing examination
The compulsory admission requirement for the fishing examination is proof of participation in a recognized preparatory course lasting at least
30 hours.

In Stuttgart, among others, the  Angling Club Möhringen e.V. (opens in a new tab) in cooperation with the  Landesfischereiverband Baden-Württemberg (opens in a new tab) and the  Württembergische Anglerverein e.V. (opens in a new tab) offer preparatory courses. Further information about the preparation courses can be found on the homepages.

The fishing examination takes place in Baden-Württemberg every year in May and November. It consists of a written part ("multiple-choice procedure"). It is taken in the district in which the preparatory course was completed. Those who have not passed the fishing examination have the opportunity to take the examination again on the next examination date.

People who live in Baden-Württemberg, but take your exam in another state: Unfortunately, your exam cannot be recognized as proof of expertise in Baden-Württemberg.

Moving to Baden-Württemberg
If you move to Baden-Württemberg from another federal state, the valid fishing license issued in the other federal state is valid until the end of the calendar year following the move at the latest. After that, you must apply for a fishing license for Baden-Württemberg.
