You must have a vehicle that you have purchased and that is already registered transferred to your name immediately.

You can re-register your vehicle from the comfort of your own home.
Prerequisites
- You must not have any overdue fees and expenses from previous registration processes. If you have arrears of more than 30 euros, the registration authority may not register your vehicle until you have paid them. If the amount is less than 30 euros, the registration authority may decide whether or not to register the vehicle anyway.
- You must not have vehicle tax debts of five euros or more. When calculating the amount, late fees, interest and late fees are also taken into account.
- If someone is to represent you in the registration of your vehicle, you must give that person a written power of attorney. This power of attorney must also include your agreement that the registration authority may inform the authorized person of any overdue fees and expenses owed by you. Your representative must present the power of attorney and provide identification.
Procedure
Private individuals can have their vehicle registration changed within Stuttgart at the vehicle registration office. If you visit the Citizens' Registration Office in connection with a change of address or registration, or to apply for an identity card or passport, you can also have your vehicle documents changed there. However, this does not apply to vehicles that require special license plates, such as light motorcycles, as these are not in stock at the Citizens' Registration Office.
For companies, only the vehicle registration office is responsible.
Required documents
- Valid identity card or passport
- Registration certificate part I or old vehicle registration document
- Registration certificate part II or old vehicle registration document
- If you have a financed / leased vehicle, the financing or leasing bank must send us the registration certificate part II by post. The re-registration can only take place once this has been sent to us. Please note that you must provide us with the number of your registration certificate part II or the previous license plate number.
- Valid eVB number from your insurer
- Declaration on the collection of vehicle tax (SEPA direct debit mandate)
- previous license plates if you
- want new stamp plates for internet-based deregistration;
- need new license plates for technical reasons, for example because you had solid plates or they are no longer legible;
- want a new license plate combination (Stuttgart combination, regardless of whether you want it or not).
If you are represented by a person, you also need:
- written power of attorney (original)
- Valid identity card or passport of the authorizing/authorizing person (a copy is sufficient)
If you are a minor , you will also need
- Declaration of consent and identification documents of the legal guardian
For legal entities/companies , you will also need
- Extract from the commercial register (a copy is sufficient)
- Business registration (copy is sufficient)
- Extract from the register of associations (copy is sufficient)
- Freelancer - letterhead or business card
If you would like the license plate of the new administrative district , you will also need
- Proof of a valid general inspection (HU) by means of the last HU report, if
- the vehicle is older than three years or
- the vehicle was previously registered as a rental vehicle, cab or similar, or
- if the next general inspection date is not shown on the registration certificate part I. - Confirmation of reservation if you have applied in advance to the new registration authority for a license plate of your choice.
Note: You always need proof of a valid HU if a new registration certificate Part I or stamping of license plates is required.

Note: Severely disabled persons with the "H", "BI" or "aG" mark on their severely disabled person's pass are exempt from motor vehicle tax. The severely disabled person's pass must be presented when changing the registration.
Note: You can obtain the insurance confirmation for your motor vehicle liability insurance from the insurance company of your choice. You can usually request this by telephone. The insurance company is automatically informed by the responsible office about the registration of the vehicle.
Note: Registrations with special plates and seasonal plates are only available at the vehicle registration office, regardless of whether you have already embossed the plates or not.

You must re-register your vehicle as soon as possible.
Processing time
A vehicle is always registered from the date on which you make a change of registration at the vehicle registration office or at a citizens' registration office. Registration with a date in the future is not possible.

Transfer of a still registered/deregistered motor vehicle with a previously foreign license plate (change of owner or relocation) or within Stuttgart (motor vehicle) (32-33)
Costs: 24,20 Euro to 80,30 Euro
Special regulation: In case of a registration at the vehicle registration office, the license plates have to be paid separately at the plate manufacturer. In the case of a registration at the citizens' registration office, there are already pre-embossed serial license plates, the pair of license plates costs 32.50 euros.
