Every food business operator is required by EU law to register and report any significant changes.
A special form of registration of establishments handling or treating products of animal origin is approval in accordance with EU-wide rules. The Office of Public Order, Food Control, Consumer Protection and Veterinary Affairs provides information on whether approval is required in individual cases and which procedural steps must be followed.
Farms are not required to register if
- they only sell small quantities of self-produced primary products, such as unprocessed fruit and vegetables, honey or eggs, to the end consumer or to local retail stores, or
- they produce for their private domestic use.
