Food inspectors and official veterinarians regularly take samples from a wide range of businesses in the food and consumer goods sectors.
The majority of samples are taken as part of specified monitoring programs in order to create an overview of the products traded on the market and their potential hazards. In addition, so-called suspect samples are taken during company inspections or as a result of consumer complaints.
Foodstuffs are examined, e.g. for spoilage, contamination, additives or deception, as well as consumer goods such as clothing, kitchen utensils or toys, e.g. for toxic ingredients.
