If young people would like an ID card before their 16th birthday or at the request of their parents, an ID card can be issued for children and young people under the age of 16 (from birth).
This requires the accompaniment of at least one legal guardian and a declaration of consent with the signatures and identification documents of both legal guardians.
The period of validity of the ID card depends on the age of the card holder. Before the age of
24 years of age, the ID card is valid for six years.
Note: If you need an identity document until your new ID card is ready, you can apply for a temporary ID card. This is valid for a maximum of three months and must be returned when the new ID card is issued.

For persons who only have a secondary residence or are not registered in Stuttgart, the Bürgerbüro Mitte will decide, after consultation, whether you can apply for an ID card here.
Procedure
For children and young people who have not yet reached the age of 16, the application is made by the legal guardian. In this case, the child must appear in person, as their identity must always be checked.
In addition, at least one legal guardian must be present in person; the other legal guardian can give their consent with an informal declaration of consent.
Note: When consent is given, the passport authority must check the authenticity of the signature. The relevant identification documents (identity card or passport) of the parents must be available.
