Street musicians

Street musicians can enliven a city, make it more friendly and colorful. However, passers-by as well as residents and people working in the city center should be happy about the contributions. Therefore, we ask you to abide by the following rules.

In the pedestrian zone of Stuttgart's city center, music may only be played in the following places:

  • Mailänder Platz 7, across from the pharmacy (Milaneo), in front of the entrance to the Stadtbahn stop Stadtbibliothek (City Library)
  • Untere Königstraße, at the height of Königstraße 3
  • Untere Königstraße, between Marquardt-Bau (Königstraße 22) and the Königin-Olga-Bau (Königstraße 9)
  • Schloßplatz, near the flag rondel
  • Kronprinzplatz, next to the fountain
  • Marienstraße, corner of Kleine Königstraße
  • Marienstraße, corner Sophienstraße
  1. If one of the above venues is occupied by special events, music may not be played at that venue.
  2. Playing music is only allowed between 9 am and 10 pm. Music may not be played between 2:30 and 4 pm.
  3. Music may only be played on the hour, for 30 minutes at a time (for example, from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., from 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.). This is followed by a half-hour break. The venue must be changed after each break.
  4. A maximum of three people may play music as a group.
  5. Particularly loud or disturbing musical instruments are not allowed; this applies especially to
    - Brass instruments (trumpet, trombone)
    - percussion instruments, drums and similar rhythm instruments
    - bagpipes
  6. Sound amplifiers as well as sound transmission devices of any kind may not be used.

Note: If these rules are violated, the police will intervene. They can also stop and prohibit musical performances if this is necessary in individual cases for reasons of traffic safety or to avoid nuisance.
