As a consumer, you come into contact with a wide variety of products every day: for example, you start your day with personal hygiene, use a hairdryer to dry your hair and make yourself a coffee with the coffee machine, you use the elevator to get to your workplace on the fifth floor and wash your clothes with a fragrant detergent.
Regardless of whether these products are classified as technical devices, consumer goods or cosmetics, one thing remains the same: when used as intended or foreseeable, safety must be guaranteed and there must be no risk to health.
Note: The European Union publishes a weekly list of products for which warnings are issued on its website under the name "RAPEX". In addition, you will also find the warnings from previous years on the site. The information is only available in English.
RAPEX is the EU's rapid alert system for all dangerous consumer products, with the exception of food, medicines and medical devices. It allows a rapid exchange of information between Member States and the European Commission.
There are products that pose a serious risk to the health and safety of consumers. The portal presents measures taken to prevent or restrict the marketing or use of such products. It includes measures taken by national authorities as well as voluntary measures taken by manufacturers and distributors.
Every Friday, the Commission publishes a weekly overview of dangerous products notified to it by the national authorities (RAPEX notifications). In the area of the German Food and Feed Code (LFGB), information on dangerous consumer goods and cosmetic products can be found here. This weekly overview summarizes all information about
- the product,
- the danger it poses and
- the measures taken in the country concerned.
