Apply for a gun ownership card for marksmen (yellow WBK)

• Minimum age: usually 25 years
• certain exceptions apply:
  • A minimum age of 21 years applies for the initial issue of a firearms permit if you can present a positive official or specialist psychological certificate of mental aptitude,
  • You must be at least 18 years of age to obtain a gun ownership card for sport shooting with certain small-caliber weapons and shotguns.
• Reliability
• Personal suitability
  You do not have the required personal aptitude if, for example, facts justify the assumption that you are
  • legally incompetent,
  • addicted to alcohol or
  • mentally ill.
• Specialist knowledge
  You can obtain the necessary proof of expertise in the most important firearms regulations and the safe handling of weapons and ammunition, including sufficient skills in shooting with firearms, by taking an examination at the responsible regional council. In certain cases, you can prove your expertise in another way (e.g. by passing the hunting examination or, for sport shooters, by successfully participating in a state-recognized expertise course).
• Proof of a need
  The need (a reasonable cause) may arise from a special personal or economic interest. This is particularly the case for
  • Hunters
  • Sport shooters and marksmen
  • Gun collectors and gun collectors
  • persons at risk
  • Persons who manufacture or trade in weapons
  • Entrepreneurs in the security industry

You will receive a permit to purchase a weapon for a period of one year; the permit to possess a weapon is usually issued for an unlimited period.

If you acquire weapons on the basis of another permit (e.g. hunting license), you must notify the competent authority in writing within two weeks and have the weapons entered in your gun ownership card.

During transportation, the weapons must be unloaded and in a locked container. Otherwise you will need a firearms license to carry the weapon.

If you fail to comply with these security obligations, you can expect fines and confiscation of the weapons. In the case of serious violations, you may even face a prison sentence.
