The "Light rail and digital construction" department is divided into three specialist areas:
- "Light rail project management" department
- "Geodata, BIM and digital service" department
- "Airport" department
Light rail project management department
Together with Stuttgarter Straßenbahn AG and with the support of the "Geodata, BIM and digital service" department, this department plans and builds the engineering structures and underground stops for the light rail system. This is where all the threads for the successful completion of the joint projects come together. In addition to project management and control, this also includes direct communication with the affected citizens and the integrated political committees. The planning of major light rail projects through to implementation is one of the main focuses of the department. Another important component of project management is the implementation of planning approval procedures, if required.
In addition to the tasks for new structures, modernization and conversion measures such as the installation of elevators and fire protection upgrades to underground light rail stops are also planned and put out to tender.
Geodata, BIM and digital service department
The department prepares digital planning documents for construction projects, checks feasibility studies and carries out surveying and inspections.
The department also plays an important role in coordinating the Building Information Modeling (BIM) process. It supports the integration of BIM into geodata-based 3D planning and is responsible for the administration of the CDE (Common Data Environment). All relevant data and information for a construction project is stored and managed centrally. It ensures that the CDE is set up and operated correctly. This includes managing access rights, monitoring data integrity and supporting users in using the platform. The aim is to create a uniform and high-quality database in order to optimize planning and construction processes and enable efficient collaboration between all parties involved.
The department is also responsible for the development and maintenance of the TIBIS civil engineering information system across all departments. In addition to recording, updating and analyzing geodata-related information, we also integrate and link this data with other relevant information in order to provide a comprehensive database for the Civil Engineering Office. Geodata management plays an important role in the planning, implementation and monitoring of construction projects and supports decision-making by providing accurate and up-to-date geographical information.
The department also offers a digital service with a wide range of digital reproduction services. These include printing, copying and scanning of documents and large-format plans through to digital filing thanks to state-of-the-art scanning, copying and printing systems.
Airport division
Although the airport is geographically no longer part of the city of Stuttgart, but of the Esslingen district, this department is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of flight operation areas, traffic routes, parking lots and drainage channels and thus supports Flughafen Stuttgart GmbH.
Smaller new buildings are also planned, tendered and executed in this department.
