The "Road Tunnel Operations, Lifts and Escalators" department is divided into two divisions. The department is also responsible for the role of Tunnel Safety Officer.

The department's specialist areas deal with the operation and maintenance of the road tunnels and the escalators and elevators at the light rail stops and urban underpasses.

Machine technology, elevators and escalators department
This department is responsible for the planning, construction and operation of escalators and elevators at public pedestrian underpasses and the stops of Stuttgarter Straßenbahn AG. The area of responsibility also includes the planning, construction and operation of ventilation systems in the city's road tunnels, underground garages and parking garages.

Electrical engineering and road tunnel operation
The operation and maintenance of 18 municipal road tunnels determine the day-to-day work of this department. The department monitors over 400 m of road tunnels around the clock. If new road tunnels are built or the operating technology is renewed, the employees are responsible for planning and construction. This department is also responsible for coordinating the planning of the electrical engineering for the ventilation systems of underground light rail stops.

The tunnel safety officer supports colleagues in all matters relating to tunnel safety.
