Allocation of seats in the municipal council

Stuttgart's municipal council consists of 60 city councillors and the Lord Mayor as chairman. The current municipal council is in office until 2029. The parties and voter associations have formed seven parliamentary groups and one grouping.

*The city councillors can join together to form political groups. A parliamentary group must consist of at least four councillors. A councillor may not belong to more than one political group.  The financing of the municipal council is made up of a basic amount and a per capita amount for the political groups. Groups and individual members of the municipal council receive the per capita amount.

The municipal council is the political representation of the citizens. According to the  Baden-Württemberg Municipal Code (GemO) (opens in a new tab), it is the "main body of the municipality" and determines the principles for administration. The  rules of procedure of the municipal council are laid down in the municipal law of the state capital Stuttgart.
