Traffic information for the start of the Stuttgart Christmas market

From Wednesday, November 26, the Stuttgart Christmas market will once again attract thousands of visitors to stroll and enjoy the city center every day. Road closures and traffic restrictions will be necessary during the entire event period up to and including Tuesday, December 23.

Leave your car on the outskirts of the city and take the streetcar directly to the Christmas market - for example in the Albstraße Park+Ride parking garage in Degerloch.

The Richard-von-Weizsäcker-Planie is only accessible to a limited extent for the duration of the Christmas market. Access to Marktstraße and Eberhardstraße is not possible daily from 11 a.m. to midnight. In the event of increased visitor numbers, especially at weekends, further closures around the event area are possible depending on the situation.

Visitors to the Christmas market and the city center must be prepared for limited parking options in the streets within the city ring, especially in the area around Karlsplatz and the market hall.

During the pre-Christmas period, the inspection times of the city's traffic monitoring team and the mobile towing team will be extended. Vehicles that are parked illegally, for example in pedestrian zones, on footpaths or in absolute stopping bans, will be the focus of particular attention. Depending on the danger this poses, different fines are imposed: usually between 15 and 55 euros - repeat offenses can also result in a point in the "traffic offender register" in Flensburg, the driving aptitude register (FAER) of the Federal Motor Transport Authority. The city of Stuttgart points out that repeated, serious parking violations not only lead to higher fines, but can also result in the withdrawal of a driver's license in individual cases.

Use local public transport

Susanne Scherz, Head of the Public Order Office, explains: "Anyone who parks incorrectly is putting everyone's safety at risk. The traffic monitoring measures ensure that road safety is increased for everyone. Visitors coming to Stuttgart from further afield should also make use of the wide range of public transport and cab services. My request: If you come by car, then park in designated parking spaces or in the numerous adjacent parking garages and park and ride lots."

Parking facilities inside and outside the Cityring

"If you decide to arrive by car, follow the instructions of the dynamic parking guidance system in the city center, which will indicate where parking spaces are still available," Scherz continues. The integrated traffic control center (IVLZ) has prepared for the high volume of traffic around the Christmas market. It provides continuous information about the current traffic situation on the interactive traffic signs in the city center and on the radio.

The underground car parks within the Cityring are quickly filled. The parking garages outside, on the other hand, usually still have capacity. From there, visitors can reach the city center area in a few minutes on foot. It is advisable to follow the instructions of the parking guidance system and avoid queues at full parking garages. The parking guidance system shows the way to free parking spaces on the edge of the City Ring.

Parking spaces for people with disabilities

There are parking spaces for people with disabilities in the immediate vicinity of the Christmas market in Bolzstraße (near Schlossplatz), Dorotheenstraße (near Schillerplatz and Karlsplatz) and Eberhardstraße, Nadlerstraße, Breite Straße (near Marktplatz). In this context, a location for the wheelchair cab has also been set up in Dorotheenstraße.

The cab ranks in the city center are at the usual locations.

Coaches will arrive at Börsenplatz in designated stopping areas for boarding and alighting. Arriving guests will be shown the way to the Christmas market site by appropriate signage.
