Experience Christmas in Stuttgart

Stuttgart kicked off the Christmas season with the opening of the Stuttgart Christmas market on November 26. This year, there are around 250 lovingly decorated stalls to explore and the Ferris wheel is once again doing the rounds on Schlossplatz.

Especially after sunset, the Christmas market and Ferris wheel shine with their colorful lights and bring a very special Christmas flair. (archive photo)
The opening ceremony of the Stuttgart Christmas Market on Wednesday, November 26, traditionally took place in the magnificently decorated arcade courtyard of the Old Palace.
Lord Mayor Dr. Frank Nopper said in his opening speech: "Christmas is the time of Christmas poems and Christmas stories, which impressively show us what really matters at Christmas. A Christmas market should also be a place of hope. A place of light and togetherness."
The brass players from Stuttgart's music school, the Hymnus choir boys - one of the oldest and best-known boys' choirs in the southwest - and the pop choir from Musikwerk Stuttgart provided the festive musical accompaniment.

The Stuttgart Christmas market stretches from Marktplatz via Kirchstraße and Schillerplatz to Schlossplatz. Traditional Swabian dishes such as wood-fired dinnede, a wide range of potatoes and cheese and special sandwiches are also on offer.
