Fine dust alarm in Stuttgart continues - end still open Daily news from March 15, 2016

In the state capital Stuttgart is still fine dust alarm Start: since Monday, March 14, 0.00 for car traffic since Sunday, March 13, 18.00 for comfort fireplaces End: The end of the fine dust alarm is still open.

The aim of the particulate matter alarm is to reduce the expected pollution with particulate matter and nitrogen dioxides during weather conditions in Stuttgart with a strong lack of exchange. Currently, the DWD predicts a strongly limited exchange capacity of the atmosphere until at least Friday 24:00.

Sustained improvement of the air exchange capacity necessary

To lift the fine dust alert, the German Weather Service(DWD) mustforecast a sustained and significant improvement in the exchange capacity; a one-day interruption of the severe restriction of the exchange capacity isnot sufficient in this respect.

Use bus and train - do without comfort fireplaces

The state capital Stuttgart, together with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Regional Council of Stuttgart, is therefore appealing to the population of Stuttgart and the metropolitan region to avoid using cars in Stuttgart as much as possible and to refrain from operating so-called comfort fireplaces, which only serve as an additional source of heat. Basically excluded are dwellings, which are heated exclusively with such single-room fireplaces.

During the alert, motorists are advised to switch as far as possible to environmentally compatible means of transport, i.e. train, streetcar, bus or bicycle, to walk, to use electric vehicles or to form car pools.
