The term of office for district councillors begins in September 2019.

The representatives of the parties and electoral associations represented on the municipal council have the right to nominate candidates for the positions. The basis is the total number of votes in the inner city districts using the counting procedure applicable to municipal council elections. The municipal council groups can then nominate a certain number of people as candidates. Based on the result of the municipal council election, the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen parliamentary group can nominate two people, while the CDU, SPD and FDP parliamentary groups each have one nomination.
