Beforehand, there had been repeated complaints from residents about littering, aggressive begging and disturbances of the peace by the occupants of the two houses. The house owner was prohibited from further commercial room rentals.
District head Marco-Oliver Luz had campaigned for a quick solution to the problem. He said, “The situation had come to a head in recent weeks. I hope that calm can now return to Reutlinger Straße.” The Social Welfare Office, together with a provider of independent emergency housing assistance, had contacted the approximately 50 residents of the two houses, the majority of whom are from Southeastern Europe, in advance of the eviction. The residents were personally informed about the impending eviction and about possible prospects, and offered advice and support if needed.
