Sillenbuch

The name Sillenbuch is derived from the large beech population of the small district on the Filder. Even today, almost a third of the district consists of forests, which many Stuttgart residents use for recreation. The borough of Sillenbuch includes the districts of Heumaden and Riedenberg.

For centuries, the oak grove served as a cattle pasture for pigs, sheep and foals. The area of just under 35 hectares has been designated as a nature reserve since 1958 and is a popular local recreation area.
The Lutheran church in Heumaden was built around 1500, rebuilt in 1666 and renovated in 1893. Since there was confusion about the name of the church, it was simply called Alte Kirche Heumaden.
The former town hall in Sillenbuch was built in 1821. It is easily recognizable by the small bell tower.
In summer, young and old can let off steam and cool off in the open-air swimming pool in Sillenbuch.
There is a village charm in Sillenbuch, but thanks to good connections, the city center can be reached quickly.

History

The village of Sillenbuch was first mentioned in 1264. Agriculture has always been important in Sillenbuch and the district of Heumaden. The inhabitants lived mainly from fruit, field and wine cultivation. Already in the Middle Ages it was known: "In Heumaden is good seyn, there grows everything."

The district of Riedenberg has only belonged to Sillenbuch since 1946 and before that was part of Birkach. The village joined the state capital Stuttgart on April 1, 1937.

Today

Sillenbuch and its districts Heumaden and Riedberg are particularly impressive for their scenic surroundings. Large parts of the local recreation and nature reserve Eichenhain are located on Riedenberg's territory.

Even today, the quiet and village charm can be felt in the core of the urban district. Due to the good connection to Stuttgart's city center, the Filder district is an attractive place to live.
